"September Aurora"

What a treat it is to peek out the window at night and see the sky alive with the green glow of the Aurora Borealis, the northern lights! This image was captured on September 3, 2008 at 9:52 pm, right from the edge of my yard. These were far from being the best show of northern lights that I've seen, but they were still very beautiful. Certainly one of the greatest benefits of living in a pretty remote area with very little light pollution.

Camera: Canon EOS 20D
Lens: Canon EF-S 17-85mm
Shutter speed: 30 seconds
Aperture: f 4.0

A rather faint display of northern lights is made to seem very bright by the use of an exposure several minutes long.
