Taken in Homer, Alaska this eagle was coming in for a landing on one of the huge pieces of driftwood along the beach on the Homer Spit. A couple of years ago I made a trip to Alaska with the primary focus of photographing the eagles in Homer. Up until this year the eagles were fed in the winter by a native Minnesota resident by the name of Jean Keene, better known as "The Eagle Lady". Jean passed away within the last year. A former "rodeo queen" from Minnesota, Jean had been living in Homer, Alaska for about the past 30 years. She started feeding a couple of eagles that were hanging out near her home 25 years ago, and the daily feedings grew to where they were attracting approximately 200-300 eagles, as well as countless tourists and photographers from around the world. She was a wonderful, extremely kind-hearted person. She will be missed by many. This image is probably my favorite from the batch of eagle images that I came home with.
